Local coverage of the groundbreaking for the Virginia G. Piper Sports & Fitness Center for Persons with Disabilities on April 20, 2010. The universally accessible sports and fitness center is designed to bring people together with all different types of disabilities, of all ages, to encourage wellness, physical fitness and nutritional health. The 45000-square-foot sports, fitness and aquatics center will be the first of its kind in the Western United States. In addition to hosting competitive and recreational sports programs for persons with disabilities, the center will also accommodate fitness, health and wellness programs.
